Julie Mertens Obituary, Death – Mertens, who had spent his entire life in Galloway and had attained the age of 83 when he passed away on October 16, 2022, had spent his entire life in the town. A member of the religious community that frequents the Catholic church located at St. Margaret of Cortona. After concluding his tenure in the United States Air Force and retiring after 30 years of service, he found job at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Before then, he had a varied career in the Air Force of the United States, serving in a variety of positions. During his time in the Air Force, he fulfilled his obligation to serve his country in Korea. In addition to his many other achievements, Dan was an avid reader and he also had a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her sisters Ann Micochero, Janet Mertens, and Karen Wescott all passed away before her, as did both of her parents, Florence and Clifton Mertens.

Her parents both predeceased her in death. He is survived by his devoted wife Virginia, his children Julie Wittenberg, Sherry Mertens, Kevin Mertens, David Wood, Liz Florentino, and Audrey Wood-Shaffer, his brother Alan Mertens (and his wife Maggie), his sisters Molly Mertens, Sally Monsey, and Christine (and her husband Pete) Mullen, as well as a large number of adoring grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by all. The TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, which can be found at 5265 Norwich Street in Hilliard, Ohio 43026, will be the location of a Celebration of Life service that will take place on November 2, 2022 at 10:30 in the morning. At the funeral home, beginning one hour prior to the start of the ceremony, the family will receive those who have traveled to offer their respects. This will begin one hour before the start of the service. The Dayton National Cemetery will serve as the location for both the funeral and the burial of the deceased.
