What to know

Zhang won the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National last month, sealing the victory over Jennifer Kupcho in a sudden death playoff to win in her LPGA pro debut. With the win, she became the first woman golfer to win in her LPGA Tour debut since Beverly Hanson in 1951.

Zhang, who turned pro in May, was a two-time NCAA champion at Stanford and is the first female golfer to win consecutive NCAA individual titles. She won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur at 17, ascending to No. 1-ranked women’s amateur in September 2020. She won 12 of 20 college tournaments and claimed the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April.

Lee is another name to watch as the defending winner. She won the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open to claim her second major. Her score of 271 last year is the lowest 72-hole total score in U.S. Women’s Open history.
